How AAT worksFor all age groups

Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) is a flexible and supportive approach that benefits individuals across all age groups. For children, interacting with animals can help build trust, encourage emotional expression, and improve social skills. Adults often find that animals provide comfort, reduce anxiety, and support personal growth during therapy. For older adults, AAT can ease feelings of isolation, stimulate memory, and promote physical activity. The presence of animals naturally creates a calming, non-judgmental space that enhances therapeutic outcomes for everyone.

Any Questions

Talk therapy involves discussing thoughts, feelings, and challenges with a therapist to gain insight and coping skills. AAT incorporates specially trained animals into sessions to enhance emotional connection, reduce stress, and support healing. Both approaches can be combined for a personalized therapy experience.
Therapy can help people of all ages, including children, teens, and adults. It’s beneficial for individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, grief, relationship difficulties, self-esteem issues, and more.
The length of therapy varies depending on individual needs. Some people find relief in just a few sessions, while others may benefit from ongoing support over several months or longer.
Not necessarily. Therapy moves at your pace, and AAT can help by providing comfort and interaction when words feel difficult.

Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) Questions

I currently work with dogs and cats, and have experience working with horses, goats and rats as well.
No, interaction is always optional. Some clients find comfort in simply having an animal nearby, while others enjoy petting, playing, or engaging in guided activities with them.
We can discuss accommodations to ensure your comfort. If you prefer, we can focus on traditional talk therapy without animals.
Animals can reduce anxiety, provide emotional support, build trust, and make sessions feel less intimidating. They help people feel more at ease while working through emotions.
Many clients find that working with animals in therapy makes the experience more approachable and comforting. The presence of an animal can help break down emotional barriers and encourage deeper self-reflection in a non-judgmental, supportive environment.

Logistics & Getting Started

The first session is a chance to discuss your goals, get to know each other, and determine the best approach for your needs. If AAT is included, we will introduce the therapy animal and explain how they might be involved.
You can contact us via email or through our website to book a session.
Just yourself! If you’d like, you can bring a notebook or any important documents related to your mental health history.
