About Empawer

Since 2020, my animal-assisted therapy and counseling practice has provided compassionate, client-centered support for individuals facing a variety of mental health challenges. By integrating the therapeutic benefits of human-animal interaction with traditional talk therapy, I create a warm, safe environment where clients can explore their emotions, build coping strategies, and foster personal growth. I work with clients of all ages, addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties, tailoring each session to meet their unique needs.

Anjana Ganesh

Animal Assisted Therapist & Counsellor

Animals have always been my greatest teachers in empathy, presence, and unconditional connection. Over the years, I’ve had the fortune of sharing my life with numerous rescued animals—each with their own story of survival, resilience, and healing.

Witnessing the calm and comfort they naturally bring to people sparked something in me. I began to notice how simply being with them could ease anxiety, soften grief, and open up space for emotional safety. As I trained as a therapist, it became clear that animals weren’t just companions—they were co-regulators, co-healers.

That’s what led me to create Empawer—a practice where therapeutic connection includes the wisdom and warmth of animals, and where people can find a safe, non-judgmental space to explore their inner world at their own pace.

Our Team

Lily

Everloving and ready with a wag to welcome you

Rescued from the streets in 2017, this 11-year-old Lab–Indie mix has been through so much—loss, survival, and healing. Despite it all, she remains one of the kindest souls you’ll ever meet. She adores humans, welcomes everyone with a wag, and believes belly rubs should be a full-time job. Her calm, loving energy helps clients feel safe, grounded, and at ease—just by being her.

Arya - A calming presence who loves gentle pets and quiet moments together

Rescued in Denver, Colorado, Arya has been by my side for over a decade— the definition of zen—he is quiet, observant, and endlessly generous with his purrs and cuddles. Arya has supported countless clients with his soothing presence, offering a kind of comfort only he knows how to give. Though he’s currently navigating kidney disease, he continues to fare well—soft, strong, and full of heart. Arya teaches us the power of stillness, presence, and loving through life’s seasons.

Loki - An independent mind that is always ready to offer grounding and comfort

Rescued in 2020 after being found hungry and scared, nesting in garbage on the streets, Loki has come a long way. These days, he’s grown into a proud, independent companion—vocal, opinionated, and secretly very fond of pets (on his terms, of course). He spends most of his day snoozing in sunny spots but occasionally blesses us with his presence during sessions—offering quiet company and soft purrs that bring a sense of calm. He’s proof that healing takes time, space, and the right kind of love.

Cosmo - Playful and affectionate, bringing joy to every session

Rescued from the streets of Mumbai after a surprise encounter outside our vet’s office, Cosmo is all things - playful, energetic, and a little bit naughty. He loves cuddling up between bursts of zoomies, chasing leaves, and creating absolute chaos in the garden. But beneath all the mischief is a heart full of affection and curiosity. Cosmo reminds us that joy, movement, and silliness are healing too.

Any Questions

Talk therapy involves discussing thoughts, feelings, and challenges with a therapist to gain insight and coping skills. AAT incorporates specially trained animals into sessions to enhance emotional connection, reduce stress, and support healing. Both approaches can be combined for a personalized therapy experience.
Therapy can help people of all ages, including children, teens, and adults. It’s beneficial for individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, grief, relationship difficulties, self-esteem issues, and more.
The length of therapy varies depending on individual needs. Some people find relief in just a few sessions, while others may benefit from ongoing support over several months or longer.
Not necessarily. Therapy moves at your pace, and AAT can help by providing comfort and interaction when words feel difficult.

Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) Questions

I currently work with dogs and cats, and have experience working with horses, goats and rats as well.
No, interaction is always optional. Some clients find comfort in simply having an animal nearby, while others enjoy petting, playing, or engaging in guided activities with them.
We can discuss accommodations to ensure your comfort. If you prefer, we can focus on traditional talk therapy without animals.
Animals can reduce anxiety, provide emotional support, build trust, and make sessions feel less intimidating. They help people feel more at ease while working through emotions.
Many clients find that working with animals in therapy makes the experience more approachable and comforting. The presence of an animal can help break down emotional barriers and encourage deeper self-reflection in a non-judgmental, supportive environment.

Logistics & Getting Started

The first session is a chance to discuss your goals, get to know each other, and determine the best approach for your needs. If AAT is included, we will introduce the therapy animal and explain how they might be involved.
You can contact us via email or through our website to book a session.
Just yourself! If you’d like, you can bring a notebook or any important documents related to your mental health history.
